Parables is based on paintings of saints by Caravaggio, with the title of each piece taking the name of the saint. The series uses figure and gesture as metaphor, looking to art history to provide a framework for examining modern concepts. The goal was to create carefully choreographed moments composed of ordinary characters in mundane surroundings to reveal each figure as possessing numerous layers of meaning and interpretation, and to endow each of these revelations with subtlety, vulnerability, quiet suspense, as well as the idea that below the pristine surface, something is about to rupture.
